Hugh Lee VIEW PROFILE

Hugh Wendell Lee, 64, a native of St. Petersburg, passed away Friday, May 23, 2014, at Apollo Health and Rehabilitation Center after an eight year battle with Frontal Temporal Dementia. Hugh attended Northeast High School and participated in football and track. He also loved playing baseball in city leagues. He graduated from USF and joined his family’s business, Todd Hyatt Stores, one of the area’s first appliance stores. After its closing, he moved into the printing industry, learning the business from his step father-in-law, Jack Harris. He worked as a production manager and estimator for the rest of his career at several local printing shops.
He was a fan of the Bucs and the Rays from their early beginnings and loved Nascar as well. He spent much time gardening also. But his hobby of woodworking gave him the most satisfaction. He made many gifts for family and friends and started making furniture, sometimes from reclaimed lumber. His love for Shaker furniture took them to several Shaker villages to admire their work, then home to build it. He was a member of the Northside Kiwanis Club and with his wife Chris, designed and built all the games for their annual Halloween Family Festival. He was the Secretary of the club for many years and then the President for one.
As a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church he worked with the Property Committee and also loved to cook and serve in the Church kitchen for weekly dinners.
Hugh was preceded in death by his parents Withers Rea Lee, Jr., Irene Wendell Lee, and brother Withers Rea Lee III. He is survived by a large loving family: his wife of 43 years, Chris Mathis Lee, a son, Bryan Cade Lee, a daughter, Amy Lee Powell, (Dale), a devoted mother-in-law, Lillian Harris, as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, sisters- in –law and a brother-in-law. He will be missed by all those who loved his sense of humor and his eagerness to help.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to First Presbyterian Church, the Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration, or Suncoast Hospice.

Though I didn't know him very well, my prayers go with his family. He's probably up there in Heaven right now looking down and keeping watch over his family.

Prayers and condolences are warmly wished for Hugh's family. May he sleep in peach and suffer no more. I knew him at NeHi, but did not know him after high school. His obituary makes me wish I had. Always so nice to read that people do what they have a passion for and makes them happy.  I know all NeHi friends who were still in touch will certainly miss him.

I remember Hugh as a genuinely nice guy - straight forward and true.  It sounds like he led a life that truly reflected those innate qualities. My condolences to his family and friends - May GOD's Grace and Mercy ease their grief and may they rest in the assurance that he has, because of his faith in CHRIST, truly crossed over from death onto Life.  He "was a lamp that burned and gave Light, and we chose for a time to enjoy his Light". John 5:35.  Now his Light shines as a beacon in the heavens among the saints. May he rest in Glory!
