Darrel was a 20 year U.S. Coast Guard veteran, joining in 1967 and retiring in 1987. During his career he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and is buried in Arlington National Cemetery. Darrel was an accomplished guitar player, photographer, and artist. He always spoke well of his friends from St. Pete.
